When Church Leaders Fail Victims of Domestic Violence

“I have never seen a minister, in court, side with the victim.”

An attorney said this to me at a conference a few years ago. When I sat down at her lunch table, I introduced myself as both a minister and an expert witness in domestic and sexual violence court cases.

If God hears the cries of the abused, oppressed and vulnerable and expects his ministers to do the same (Exodus 22:22, Proverbs 21:13 and 31:8-9), why is it that the attorney’s comment is one I hear often?
